Give the kid a break!

Have not written a blog in a while and since I have been gone a lot has happened!  We on the East coast have survived an earthquake, hurricane, flooding, etc  all in one week!  Face book has changed, my relationship status has changed and the dogs are growing!  Don’t plan on writing as much as I was but I saw something on the news from Virginia that really disturbs me and I felt compelled to voice my opinion!
There is a kid that is a sophomore in a high school that decided to run around during halftime at one of the football games wearing a Banana costume.  What irritates me is the way the school district, principle etc are handling it by suspending the kid for 10 days and possible expulsion from his school for the whole year.  I simply cannot believe this is going on!  He was not drinking, was not on drugs, just a kid running around the field in a costume during halftime. It is said that this kid has a disability and he was not thinking right, hell what teenager thinks right all the time?  Peer pressure etc does enough to a kid!  I remember a kid who got in trouble for streaking in my school in the 70s.  He did not get suspended.  His principle made him run on the track team twice for his punishment!  The kid could run like the wind and he won both matches!  He grew up to be a pretty responsible adult but what would have happened if he had been suspended, had a criminal record and not been able to join the military?  There are enough problems for kids these days and let’s face it, we are all having problems, unemployment is at the highest rates in years, the economy stinks and the housing market is still in the red.  My opinion is give this kid a break!  One of the comments I saw was turn something negative into a positive!  If the kid has that much energy make him a mascot, give him community service etc but keep the kid in school.  There are enough dropouts and kids who want to quit, give the kid a break!  That’s all I’m sayin!  Until next time!
