As I previously wrote in one of my blogs it seems there is a day for anything. Today happens to be Flag Day. It is a good day, hot and humid chance of thunderstorms but what is Flag Day and why celebrate it? The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday' In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. How cool is it to see flags flying across this great nation? If you have ever been in a foreign country and seen the American flag flying it makes you feel proud. If you think about it our flag is recognized all over the world. The stars and stripes as we know it was in George Washington’s coat of arms. Yes he had the stars and stripes in his coat of arms! I think he figured since he was “The father of our country” he could do what he wanted. Anyway, he talked to Betsy Ross and said “make something with stars and stripes”. And so it goes! Anyway Fly your flag proud and give credit where credit is due. Also this is the United States Army birthday. Happy birthday US Army and you serve us proud. My flag is flying is yours? Until next time
